Domino's Chief Digital Officer Christopher Thomas-Moore, is a dynamic industry leader, and one of our 5 honorees recognized on the list of People Shaping Retail's Future 2025. Thomas-Moore talks to us about the opportunities and challenges he's faced, and how he's learned from some of the failures along the way.

We asked Thomas-Moore 20 questions about his career, the retail industry, and advice he would give to those looking to grow their careers in retail. Here are a few of his responses. For the full interview, watch this video.

How did you get the role you're currently in?

I wanted to be with an organization that was a household name. I wanted to be able to have influence and be able to help contribute to driving the business. And I wanted to have fun, innovate, and do cool things. When my role with Domino's came about, I was like, "This is a dream. This is everything that I've looked for and everything I was hoping for in a role." And to this day, six years later, it was the best decision I made.

What career advice would you give to your younger self?

I would tell my younger self that life comes with ups and downs. It's okay to have some failures along the way if you're learning and growing from them. One of the things I really love about Domino's is that we are a culture that does have an acceptance and a tolerance for risk and failures as long as the outcome of those build us up professionally or as a brand. I appreciate that opportunity to fall on my face sometimes; but get back up because I've learned so much as a result.

Tell us about a great manager you had and how they impacted your career.

I feel really fortunate to have had a number of individuals that helped shape my career… individuals that saw potential in me and put me into situations and in rooms that, based off my experience on paper, I really wasn't qualified to be in. I was in college doing international sourcing for a retail brand. Like, how? Why? But our general manager for our division saw potential in me and saw the opportunity for me to do more than I was doing.

I've had that throughout my career, from the beginning of my career to where I am today. I was responsible for our menu and product for a while here at Domino's. And who gives the digital guy that, right? Domino's does.

I feel really fortunate that I've had a number of managers throughout my career that saw opportunities in me that sometimes I didn't even see in myself and gave me a shot.

What's the biggest risk you have taken in your career?

I have taken a lot of risk. Mitigated, but taken a number of risks throughout my career, and I feel really lucky to have been given the opportunity to do so. Some of them were different projects or campaigns. I was really excited when I joined [Domino's]. One of the first campaigns I participated in was one called Points for Pies. It was a program where we took the bold action of giving our loyalty points out to people that ate pizza, regardless of if it was our own pizza. Who does that, right? And it was really exciting for the love of pizza to celebrate with everyone. But it was the first time that we leaned into computer vision and spatial computing. It was a lot of new territory for us. While it wasn't the easiest project, it was really exciting.

What does the future of retail look like?

I  I don't know anyone that can tell you what the future of retail is going to be, but I can tell you it's not going to be the same as it is today in the future. Technology will continue to play a more important role in retail, but  the consumer's voice, decisioning, and what those offerings will continue to play a more important role. I think the only thing that we can say will be part of the future of retail is that it's going to change.
