Researchers say this is a great time for young people to secure jobs. “The 2022 Summer Job Outlook for American Teens” from Drexel University – an NRF University Member school – says labor shortages nationwide mean “teens have a higher probability of being hired by employers.”

Plus, according to research by the National Retail Federation, managers across industries value retail skills and experience because the jobs teach people how to go to work with skills they’ll use throughout their careers.

Check out these resources to help you secure employment:

Search the National Retail Federation’s job board

Search the NRF Job Board for opportunities in your area as retailers hire for a variety of roles nationwide.

A tip for job seekers who are in high school: Select “Entry Level” under “Experience” to narrow down the roles that will be a good fit.

Earn a credential to stand out among candidates

Increase your chances of getting hired by completing training from the NRF Foundation in customer service, sales and more.

Interested in taking the training?

Complete courses online or with a training partner in your community.

“Most of my students that finish their RISE Up credential add that to their resume, and they are at the top of a hiring list because they hold that industry credential that a lot of the employers in our area are now starting to recognize,” says John-Martin Rigsby, who leads RISE Up courses Trevor G. Browne High School in Phoenix and does outreach to hiring managers at local retailers, meeting with them to explain the benefits of hiring his students.

Credential holders can use the “Why Hire RISE Up Credential Holders?” one-pager to help them describe their qualifications to potential employers.

Try an app to match you to roles

The NRF Foundation partners with the Capango app – created to efficiently match candidates to retail and restaurant opportunities – to give NRF Foundation credential holders an advantage in their job search.

“People who complete NRF Foundation training are well-prepared for a variety of roles in retail, and Capango is a powerful tool for job seekers who have earned RISE Up credentials because it quickly connects them to recruiters looking for talent,” NRF Foundation Vice President Adam Lukoskie says. “Your course badge is displayed on your candidate profile and preference is given to credential holders by employers.”

You can get started with the Capango app here.
